SCRIPTURE PASSAGE: Jonah 4:1-11

SERIES: Pursuing Grace

This 4 week series looking at the book of Jonah shows us the two sides of “pursuing grace”, in that part of God’s act of grace is to pursue us even while we have rebelled, and then also that even as believers we need to continue to pursue God’s grace as we live in a broken world.

Jonah 4 reveals to us the literary masterpiece this book is.  The narrator has meticulously crafted the story of Jonah not to teach us the lesson he learnt, but for us to learn from what Jonah didn’t.  The story ends with God questioning Jonah, but we never hear his response. It leaves us to consider what our response will be to God’s questions.  The narrator never tells us that Jonah comes to a point of understanding, but his hope is that we might.
